i'm quite tired this morning.
the boy and i went to see faithless at webster hall last night and i haven't jumped around like a madwoman like that since the early 90's. dancing is good.

been working on some things.

in my search for cutlery for our wedding registry, i rediscovered the beautiful flatware designs of sori yanagi.

while we decided on knifeforkspoon by jasper morrison, i'd love to get some of yanagi's gorgeous kitchenware.

i'm not sure if we'll venture far today, but so far i've just been devouring the new issue of blueprint - its got lots of interesting things, including a lovely story on how to do a fun family brunch and loads of pictures of the home of purl soho owner joelle hoverson. good stuff.

(speaking of all things msl, i was super excited to be eating bbq elbow to elbow with sarah carey of everyday food over at the smoke joint this weekend. super excited. am i a nerd that this totally counts as a celebrity sighting for me?)

in honor of earth day:
lexus (???) has done some really nice little documentaries about green businesses. i suppose the intent is to sell me on their hybrid, but i was really more psyched to get a little peek behind-the-scenes of some of my favorite green companies, like living homes, landscape artist paula hayes and stewart+brown.



i don't know how i never noticed them before, but i'm really taken by this series of limited edition vases by roy mcmakin for heath.

i think this is just so beautiful.

yesterday evening, i headed over to rare device to see the anatomie show and to meet rena and lisa.

i'm afraid i'm not very good at meeting new people.
(and i am very new to meeting fellow bloggers...)
i never know what to do with myself.
so i hope i didn't come off as too much of an odd duck.

regardless, meeting lisa and rena was a real treat! they are exactly as you might imagine - warm, bright and so stylish! it was really a joy to get a chance to meet them.

be sure you get over there to see anatomie ...lisa really has created a wonderful collection of work and rare device is always full of beautiful, unique things!

tonight i had the pleasure of hearing zadie smith read at the brooklyn academy of music.

i hate to gush.
but i will.

what i love, i really love
and i love zadie smith.

she's breath-takingly bright, enormously funny, and generous in her observations about writing and life. plus she has this completely unexpected, husky, gravely voice.

she's just cool.

oh and she's edited a book of short stories coming out this fall that sounds super excellent. its got everyone from dave eggers to george saunders to daniel clowes to chris ware and the proceeds from its sale will benefit 826NYC.

i'm supremely glad i had the opportunity.

cacti at the garfield conservatory in chicago

we're back from a lovely mini vacation in chicago. i don't know how we managed it, but we somehow got to see a lot of our former home, visit with jan's parents, and relax all at the same time. we also saw two fun (and funny) shows - david sedaris at the chicago theater and rock & roll: impatience by lucky pierre. also there were stops at the garfield conservatory, lincoln park conservatory, lincoln park zoo and the mca as well as much thrifting, hotel room bubble baths and polish food. all in all, a very good time. you can see it all right here.

in other news...
i'll be adding a list of my favorite places to visit in new york over on the sidebar in the next few weeks. i get asked for a list a lot, so i figured it might be good to just add one to the blog.
